Removal and installation of the sensor of a reserve of fuel and fuel pump
BMW of the 5th series in each compartment of the fuel tank have to about one sensor of a reserve. For check of sensors they need to be removed. In the sensor on the right side of a tank there is a fuel pump (the tank pump). For removal of the pump it is necessary to remove the right sensor.
Removal
You monitor surely good ventilation of a workplace. Fuel vapors are poisonous. Do not use naked flame, you do not smoke. Risk of fire! You keep in readiness the fire extinguisher.
| | For removal of the sensor of the fuel tank fuel has to be merged. For this purpose pass on the car, having completely spent fuel or pump out it the pump. Fuel vapors are poisonous. Do not inhale them. It is recommended to carry out work in the open air. |

| 1. Disconnect a weight cable from the rechargeable battery. The battery is in a luggage carrier behind the right side facing.
2. Remove a back seat, address the Section Removal and installation of a back seat. |
3. Squeeze out rubber plugs under a seat at the left and on the right. Cut through a sharp knife mats at the punched line and unbend. Address an accompanying illustration. |

4. Turn off bolts of fastening and uncover with consolidation. Address an accompanying illustration. |

Removal of the right sensor of the fuel tank with the fuel pump
|
1. Turn off bolts of fastening and uncover (1). Address an accompanying illustration. |
|
2. Rasstykuyte plugs (1) and (2). For this purpose open clamps. Address an accompanying illustration.
7 Mark fuel hoses (3) and (4) adhesive tape and disconnect them from the sensor of the fuel tank, having opened collars.
| | The fuel system is under pressure. Therefore remove a hose carefully. Wipe the flowed-out fuel with a rag. |
8 Carefully turn off blows a cap nut (5). Auto repair shops use for this purpose the BMW 16 1 020 tool. It can be made also by means of wooden whetstone. Formation of sparks is not allowed at the same time. |

3. Lift the sensor, incline it aside and take out. At the same time enclose a rag and wipe the flowed-out oil. |
4. Squeeze the holder of the fuel pump (the black case). Take out the pump from a pot (the white case). Address an accompanying illustration. |

5. Disconnect both plugs (1) from the fuel pump. Address an accompanying illustration.
6. Open collars (2). Open a collar of a spiral hose. Carefully disconnect a hose from the fuel pump.

| Collars of a cable are located at height of white markings. Pay attention to it at installation. |

Removal of the left sensor of the fuel tank
|
1. Turn off bolts of fastening and uncover (2). |
|
2. Disconnect the plug of the fuel tank. For this purpose open clamps.
3. Disconnect a fuel hose from the tank sensor, having opened collars.
| | The fuel system is under pressure. Therefore remove a hose carefully. Wipe the flowed-out fuel with a rag. |

4. Carefully turn off blows a cap nut (5). Auto repair shops use for this purpose the BMW 16 1 020 tool. It can be made also by means of wooden whetstone. Formation of sparks is not allowed at the same time. |

5. Lift the sensor. From the lower party squeeze two clamps of a pipe of the pump and remove a pipe. Take out the sensor of the fuel tank. At the same time enclose a rag and wipe the flowed-out oil. |

Installation
| | Surely replace sealing rings of the sensor of fuel with new. |
|
| 1. Left sensor of a tank:
18 Insert the sensor and you hold it approximately in 5 cm over a tank. Insert a pipe into the pump.
Right sensor of a tank:
19 Fix the fuel pump at the sensor of fuel and attach hoses. |
2. For an exception of distortions before installation of the sensor of a tank expose a spiral hose and a cable (2) between the sensor of level (1) and the fuel pump (3). Address an accompanying illustration. |

3. Expose the tank sensor. At the same time the pad at the top part of the sensor of fuel has to enter a groove at a tank. The sensor has to settle down vertically in a tank. Bottom the measuring probe has to be in a tank bottom groove.
4. Fix a cap nut by the moment of 35 Nanometers. At the same time the rotary lock has to be fixed distinctly in the corresponding selection on a tank.
5. Put on fuel hoses according to the put markings and fix them by new collars.
6. Join plugs and fix them.
7. Establish a cover and fix it. Pay attention to the correct provision of consolidation.
8. Establish a back seat.
9. Attach a negative cable to the rechargeable battery. Establish hours. Program stations of the radio receiver.
10. Check work of the index of a reserve of fuel for dashboards. |
