Self-discharge of the rechargeable battery

Depending on the car equipment also consumption of current by various electric devices in an idle state is added to a natural self-discharge of the battery. Therefore in not used car at least once in 6 weeks it is necessary to recharge the rechargeable battery.

If there is a suspicion on existence of currents of leak, check onboard network as follows:

CHECK

1. For check use the charged battery.

2. Switch off everything consumers, disconnect hours, close doors and a cowl. Close a trunk lid.

3. Disconnect a weight cable from the rechargeable battery.

At a detachment of the battery records in memory of malfunctions are erased. Before shutdown of the battery study the Section Removal and installation of the rechargeable battery.

4. Establish on the ampermeter (range of measurement 0 - 5 And) the top range of measurements. Turn on the ampermeter between a negative pole of the battery (-) and a weight(s) cable. Address an accompanying illustration.

Check can be executed also control lamp. If the lamp included between the weight and a negative pole of the battery does not light up, it is necessary to use the ampermeter surely.

5. Switch from the ampere range on milliamperny until instrument reading appears (enough 1 - 3 мА).

6. Taking out consistently one safety lock behind another, disconnect the corresponding electric chains. If at disconnection of one of chains the ampermeter shows zero, there is a damage source. Can be damages: the rusted or polluted contacts, the ground electric wires, internally short circuit in units.

If in the electric chains protected by safety locks, malfunction is not found, then it is necessary to disconnect wires at the unprotected units, such as system of ignition, the generator and a starter.

If at a detachment of one of the unprotected units the ampermeter shows zero, it is necessary to repair or replace this unit. In the presence of leakages of current in a starter or system of ignition it is always necessary to check as well the ignition switch.

Attach a weight(s) cable to the rechargeable battery.
