Charging of the rechargeable battery

Points 6, 11-14 do not belong to the low-served rechargeable batteries which equip the BMW cars of the 5th series. It is necessary to observe recommendations about operation of the low-served batteries.

Never on close the rechargeable battery накоротко, i.e. do not connect among themselves (+) and (-). At short circuit the battery can overheat and burst. Do not light the battery with an open flame. Electrolyte is poisonous, do not allow its hit in eyes, on skin or clothes. At electrolyte hit plentifully wash out the struck place water.

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Before battery charging disconnect from it positive (+) and negative cables. At first the negative cable is disconnected.
2. Before battery charging check electrolyte level, if necessary add electrolyte.
3. If the battery froze, before a charge give it the chance to thaw. The charged battery freezes at a temperature - 65 °C, the semi-charged battery freezes at a temperature - 12 °C.
4. If the battery a long time was discharged, completely it cannot be loaded or in general it is impossible to load. In this case it is necessary to charge the battery with small current during longer time. After a charge it is necessary to check electrolyte density.
5. Before a charge of the battery check its tension, address the Section Check of the Rechargeable Battery.
6. Turn out from the battery of a stopper and put them on openings. It will exclude hit of splashes of electrolyte on a paint and varnish covering, providing at the same time an opportunity leaving the gases which are formed at a charge.
7. Charge the battery only in well aired room. At a charge of the battery installed on the car open a trunk lid.
8. At normal charging current makes about 10% of capacity of the battery. (At the capacity of 50 Ach current of a charge makes, thus, 5 A). Charge time approximately makes the 10th hour.
9. (+) connect a positive pole of the battery to a positive pole (+), a negative pole (-) to a negative pole (-) of the charger.
10. Electrolyte temperature at a charge should not exceed +55 °C. Otherwise interrupt process or reduce value of current of a charge.
11. Battery charging should be done until gases and also density of electrolyte are emitted and tension do not increase during three following one after another of measurements at an interval of 1 hour.
12. After charging check electrolyte level, if necessary add the distilled water.
13. Check electrolyte density. If electrolyte density in one of sections significantly differs from density in others (for example, in five sections density makes 1.26 g/ml, and in the sixth section of 1.18 g/ml), then the battery is faulty and has to be replaced.
14. Let's leave within 20 min. to gases, then close traffic jams.

It is impossible to start the engine at the switched-off rechargeable battery.
