Wheels and tires. Rotation, replacement, balancing and leaving. Snow chains. Sekretka of wheels. Elimination of trembling of a wheel.

Rotation can be made for economy reasons at least through 5000 km, or at emergence of signs of uneven wear of protectors. However you remember that in case of successful rotation of all four wheels you, eventually, should replace all tires at the same time.

Though for the benefit of preservation of optimum road performance, it is not recommended to carry out rotation.
As holding this procedure demands a car raising above the ground and removals of wheels, check at the same time and operation of brake mechanisms (address the Section Check of the Brake System).

Even if you are not going to make rotation, at least check reliability of an inhaling of bolts of fastening of wheels.

It is necessary to carry out rotation according to the special scheme so that the direction of their rotation did not change.

Address information in the Section "Poddomkrachivaniye and Towage" of Introduction for the correct raising of the car and change of a wheel.

The car should be lifted the winch or to install it on support that all four wheels were lifted above the ground. Make sure that the car is reliably fixed!

After the end of a procedure of rotation check and adjust pressure in tires and do not forget to check reliability of an inhaling of bolts of fastening of wheels.

Replacement and balancing of wheels

When replacing wheels it is recommended to keep the direction of their rotation as change of the direction brings in the increased wear of tires. It is also not recommended to rearrange forward wheels back and vice versa.
At an inhaling of bolts of fastening of wheels it is necessary to apply a dynamometer key surely. It guarantees a uniform inhaling of all bolts.

During the replacing and dismantle of tubeless tires for reasons of safety it is necessary to replace the rubber gate surely.


1. Weaken bolts of fastening of a wheel on the car standing on the earth. For this purpose tighten the parking brake or include the first transfer, so that the car was not rolled away.

2. Remove the screw-driver a cap from locking bolts of fastening of a wheel. Insert against the stop a key into the lock. At the same time costs vents in parallel to an oval groove. Turn a key on 90 ° and remove with a cover. Installation is carried out in the return sequence. At taking out of a key the plug has to nestle on a bolt of fastening of a wheel. Put on a cap. a/b - a bolt of fastening of a wheel, is galvanized/is chromeplated, with - a locking bolt, chromeplated. Address an accompanying illustration.

3. If there is a protection of bolts of fastening of a wheel, the wheel is removed as follows: slightly turn a cover (1) a key to the left and remove. Then insert an adapter (3) into a bolt (2) and turn off it. Address an accompanying illustration.

Surely you carry with yourself in a tool set an adapter (3).

4. Lift and install the car on supports.

5. Turn a wheel so that the gate (the lower arrow on an accompanying illustration) was below.

6. Before removal of a wheel mark with a felt-tip pen the provision of a disk concerning a nave that the balanced wheel reached the former position. Address an accompanying illustration.

Depending on type of a disk various bolts of fastening are applied. It is necessary to apply only the bolts allowed by BMW.

7. At installation not of original disks from light metals it is necessary to apply the fastening bolts which are also corresponding to them instead of original. It is recommended to have for a spare wheel of BMW used earlier with itself the corresponding bolts of fastening
8. Disks from light metals have a covering a colourless varnish for protection against corrosion. When replacing a wheel you watch to damaging a covering. At damage correct defect a varnish.
9. Before installation of a wheel clear the aligning corbel on a nave and an adjacent surface of a wheel of dirt and the remains of lubricant and slightly grease the aligning corbel with bearing lubricant.

10. Clear fastening bolts of dirt. At damage or corrosion replace bolts. The carving of bolts should not be oiled or plastic lubricant. Address an accompanying illustration.

11. Before installation of a wheel into place insert an assembly mandrel into the top carving opening. Such mandrel is available in a set of the onboard tool. After installation of several bolts remove a mandrel.

12. Tighten bolts of fastening of a wheel cross-wise in stages. The inhaling moment for all bolts makes 100 Nanometers. Address an accompanying illustration.

The unilateral inhaling of bolts of fastening or their inhaling with various moment a wheel and/or a nave can be drawn. At installation of new wheels through 1000 km of a run bolts of fastening need to be tightened the determined inhaling moment.

If the car is equipped with the navigation system, then after replacement of a wheel or the tire it is necessary to make calibration of system.

Balancing of wheels

Serial wheels undergo balancing at manufacturer. Balancing is necessary for elimination of uneven distribution of masses and inaccuracies of production of details.

At the movement of the car not balanced wheels lead to jolting. At a high speed the steering wheel begins to shiver.

As a rule, trembling is shown in the certain range of speeds and disappears at reduction and increase in speed.

The similar phenomena lead to damages of hinges of a suspension bracket, the steering mechanism and shock-absorbers over time.

Wheels it is necessary to balance each 20 000 km of a run and after each repair which lead to redistribution of masses on wheels.

Recommendations about care of tires

Tires have "memory". It means that maloperation with them, in particular, frequent arrival on a border of the road or moving through rails, leads to their damage after a while.

Cleaning of tires

It is not recommended to clear tires a vapor jet. If the nozzle of the device is too close to the tire, then it leads to destruction of a rubber layer within several seconds even if cold water is applied. The tire which underwent such cleaning has to be replaced for the purpose of safety of operation of the car.

Also the tire, a long time which was in contact with oil or lubricant is subject to replacement. At the same time the tire in these places distends, then takes the usual form and externally does not look damaged. However after that load ability of the tire decreases.

Storage of tires

It is necessary to store tires in the dark, dry and cool place. The contact of tires with oil or lubricant is not recommended.

Wheels have to be stored in horizontal position or be suspended for disks in a garage or the cellar.

Before removal we prick it is necessary to raise in them air pressure (by 0.3 - 0.5 bars).

Winter tires should be installed on the drives.

Running in of tires

Tires have very smooth external surface. Therefore new tires have to be rolled (it belongs also to a spare wheel). After a running in the surface of the tire becomes rough.

The first 300 km it is necessary to move with new tires especially carefully on wet roads.

Snow chains

It is possible to establish snow chains only on driving wheels (on a back axis). At application of wheels of 17 inches in size installation of snow chains is impossible.

At installation of snow chains the speed of the movement of the car should not exceed 50 km/h. On roads, on having a snow and ice covering, snow chains it is necessary to remove.

It is necessary to apply only the chains allowed by BMW.

Additional sekretok installation of wheels


1. Weaken bolts of fastening of a wheel.
2. Lift and install the car on supports so that the wheel freely rotated.
3. Turn off bolts of fastening of a wheel so that the wheel freely moved on a nave.
4. Turn a wheel so that the gate was below
5. Turn the top bolt of fastening of a wheel and insert instead of it a castle bolt (the top arrow).
6. Turn out a bolt of fastening of a wheel and insert instead of it a castle bolt (the top arrow).
7. In this situation (a castle bolt above / the gate below) wrap a cross / crosswise by hand fastening bolts.
8. Tighten fastening bolts cross-wise the moment of 100 Nanometers.

Such way of installation of a castle bolt minimizes the imbalance arising owing to installation of heavier castle bolt.

Elimination of trembling of a wheel of the car

Trembling of a steering wheel at achievement by the car of a certain speed, as a rule, is a consequence of disbalance of wheels.



1. Check air pressure in tires. If necessary pump up them.
2. Make a control trip. As it is possible establish a cause of defect more precisely: achievement of a certain speed, quality of the road, the moment of an entrance and exit from turn.
3. Lift and install the car on supports.
4. Check centering of disks of wheels. At the same time the nave or the brake drum have to act over boards of disks of wheels or, at least, to be aflush. Otherwise the disk is subject to replacement.
5. Check a suspension bracket. For this purpose it is necessary to check rubber-metal support, hinges, shock-absorbers and disks.
6. Remove wheels and clear them. If it is necessary, remove small stones from a tire profile.
7. Check depth of a profile of tires and compare among themselves. At the wrong wear of tires in front and/or behind it is necessary to check installation of wheels and to adjust. At the same time deviations of a convergence should not go beyond the upper bound of the admission.

Measurement of geometry of wheels requires the special equipment which is available only on HUNDRED.

8. Make a trial trip and check whether malfunctions are eliminated.

Check of a radial and axial beating of wheels


1. Lift the car and install it on supports. Bring a measuring tip of the indicator to external, and then to the side surface of the tire. Slowly turn a wheel a hand and take readings of the indicator. Chalk note the place of the maximum beating.
2. If the beating exceeds the value established by Specifications, wheels need to be balanced in stationary conditions. At the same time wheels by balancing car have to be ottsentrovana the same as on the Centering of Wheels car on the central opening in the conic clutch is not carried out. The admissible imbalance in both planes makes 5 g.

Elimination of a radial beating


1. Lower air in the tire and press an edge of the tire into a disk bed.
2. Turn the tire on 120 ° on a disk.
3. Pump up the tire and again check a radial beating.
4. If the maximum value is exceeded, turn the tire on a disk on 120 ° and check a radial beating.
5. If the beating does not exceed admissible value, balance a wheel.

Check of a radial and axial beating of disks


1. Establish a disk without tire by balancing car or on the car. Install the indicator.


2. Check radial H and axial S beating of a disk. On the extreme internal planes the radial beating, on the side internal planes - an axial beating is checked. At the same time the local deviation of the indicator owing to roughnesses is not considered.

3. If values exceed specified in Specifications, the disk is subject to replacement.


Installation of wheels on the car


1. On the car lifted on supports establish wheels so that the place with the maximum radial beating was above. In this situation tighten bolts of fastening of a wheel a dynamometer key the moment given in Specifications.

If the difference in wear of separate tires is insignificant, establish wheels with a small radial beating and the maximum imbalance on a forward axis.

2. Make a trial trip. If still forward part of the car has fluctuations and the steering wheel shivers, then the residual imbalance which needs to be eliminated by additional balancing is the reason.

Balancing of wheels on the car


1. When carrying out balancing of driving wheels surely install both tires of one axis on rollers.
2. The drive of wheels has to be carried out from the car engine that wheels rotated synchronously.
3. Make a trial trip.

If malfunctions are completely not eliminated, then it indicates existence of a radial beating or production defect of one or several tires. They are not defined by technical means HUNDRED. It is possible to eliminate them only with replacement of forward and/or back tires. Tires have to be replaced only parno on one axis.
